The Sontronics DM-1B is a large-diaphragm, cardioid condenser mic designed specifically for kick drum and bass developed in cooperation with top producers and drummers.
British-designed (though people of all nationalities are welcome to use it) with a lifetime warranty, the Sontronics DM-1B is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone with a fixed cardioid pattern. The DM-1B is purpose-built for kick drum and bass, but also works exceptionally well on other low-frequency instruments thanks to its ability to handle up to 155dB SPL. Being specifically tailored for drum miking and low-frequency instruments, rather than going for “desert island” status allows Sontronics to focus materials on functionality, which enables them to craft a better performing mic for its task at lower cost than it would take for an “all things to all people” design. The DM-1B is the product of three years of research, design, and development in partnership with top producers and drummers, making it a first-call mic for studio and live drum miking.

Sontronics DM-1B-Behind the Grille
Thanks to its high sensitivity, low self-noise, -15dB attenuation pad, and the ability to handle up to 155dB SPL, the DM-1B delivers outstanding results on kick drum and also sounds fantastic on bass guitar cabinets. Its incredible power handling and highly compliant diaphragm enable it to capture all the attack, resonance, and energy from your kick drum and other bass instruments like nothing you’ve ever heard before.
The DM-1B is designed with its fixed cardioid capsule facing out of the top end of the microphone (end-address style) and can be positioned either to the front head of the drum or even pushed towards or slightly inside the sound hole of the kick drum. The DM-1B comes with its adjustable yoke mount in a sturdy aluminum flight case and, like all Sontronics microphones, is covered by a unique lifetime warranty.

What the pros are saying about the DM series:
Sontronics mics have received rave reviews, awards, and are featured on the touring kits and studio set-ups of major drummers including Dave Grohl, Aerosmith’s Joey Kramer, Dom Howard of Muse, and Blur’s Dave Rowntree.
“The DM-1B sounds better than my vintage Neumann U47fet, which is saying something, and the DM-1S is one of the best close mics I have ever used. Amazing!” – Andy Gray, producer/composer (Radiohead, Gary Numan, Enter Shikari, TT3D, CSI Miami)
“We were A/B testing the Sontronics drum mics set up against some thousand-pound mics and we had to keep checking the tracks because the Sontronics mics sounded as good if not better than the expensive ones. We were totally blown away!” – Mark Rankin, producer (Florence & The Machine, Adele, Plan B, Queens of the Stone Age)
“DM-1B sounds absolutely brilliant, right out of the box, with no need for any EQ. The DM-1B, DM-1T, and DM-1S truly capture my drums without any need for any enhancement. The results are amazing!” – Pete Parada, drummer (My Chemical Romance, The Offspring)
“I’m so impressed by the sound of these mics for all my studio and live performances in all genres (rock, jazz, world music), I rely on these mics. Just amazing.” – Marito Marques, Drummer/Producer
